This strait is one of the most popular passages between the two locations, and it stretches for a distance of about 40 miles.

Lombok Strait, Ferry Service & Fast Boat from Bali to Gili Islands

The depth of the Lombok Strait is recorded as 250 metres, allowing ships and ferries to get across the strait. It is not uncommon to see huge sea vessels sailing across here.

Ferry services operate to take passengers between the islands of Bali and Lombok and especially to the Gili Islands which are a popular beachside holiday destination for many travellers to Bali.

A fast boat can have you at the Gili Islands (just off the coast of Lombok) in around 2 hours if departing from Bali. The cost can vary between operators but is generally around $50-$70 AUD. Other slower passengers ferries will take longer but are much cheaper. You can catch a ferry which will take 6 hours and cost only between $20-$30 per person.
