Denpasar

Regarded as the gateway to beautiful Bali, Denpasar is a favourite destination for visitors as it is located right in the centre of the action on Bali.

The town is the capital of Bali, and is without a doubt, the most densely populated province on the island. During the colonial period, the town was the headquarters of the Badung Kingdom. After independence, the town became the administrative centre of Bali and has remained so today.

The eclectic blend of antique structures with contemporary amenities makes for an exciting getaway. Most attractions at Denpasar intertwine historical events and cultural aspects of the Balinese people to create an overall unique destination.

Start your tour of the town at the Sakenan Temple, referred to by the locals as ‘Pura Sakenan’. With two distinct blocks, the temples have ancient coral stones that were used in place of modern building bricks. While at the temple in Serangan Island, take time to tour the pristine beaches for a relaxed afternoon.

While sightseeing in the town, it is practically impossible to miss the Bajra Sandhi Monument, a classical masterpiece that symbolises the struggle for independence from the Dutch. With its unique architectural texture, and surrounded by verdant gardens, the iconic landmark is famous for its perfect photograph moments.

Get a glimpse of Bali’s history at the Bali Provincial Public Museum where there are more than 10,000 exhibits. Nature enthusiast will be excited to visit Shark Island and the marvellous Turtle Conservation and Education Centre. As the capital of Bali, Denpasar is a few minutes’ drive from the airport and is close to Kuta.
