The other benefit of Balinale is that many producers come to Bali to scout for film locations which increases Bali’s profile on the international stage and injecting large sums of money into the Indonesian economy.
Many of the films are displayed in Cinemaxx, a state-of-the-art theatre which is capable of exhibiting 2D and 3D films. Cinemaxx is located in Lippo Mall in South Kuta Beach, making it a convenient location for those wanting to take part in the festival.
Balinale also offers workshops to aspiring student filmmakers throughout the year. Those who produce work as part of these sessions may have an opportunity to present their work at the festival. There is also a dedicated children’s program and Indonesian Cinema which is targeted to a local audience.
The full program will be released in late August 2018. The theme for this year’s edition is ‘Timeless’ in selecting films that have an extraordinary ability to communicate the largest of human stories as well as the briefest moments of world changing emotion.
