Jatiluwih Rice Terrace

Jatiluwih Rice Terrace is a popular travel destination located in the west of Bali. It is loved for its lush green landscapes that stretch from mountain to coast.

The name of the terrace is derived from two names: Jati and Luwih. Jati is a Balinese word which translates to ‘really’ while Luwih means ‘special’ or ‘good’. The name, therefore, translates to a really special place, and true to this definition, the rice terrace is an amazing and unique travel destination.

What makes Jatiluwih Rice Terrace special is the organic agricultural practice that sets it apart from other usual rice paddies. This can be attributed to its strategic location at the foot of Batukaru Mountain. The fertile soils at the foot of the mountain make it an ideal location for rice planting. The entrance fee to the terraces is 15,000 Rp.

One of the main reasons why this rice terrace is an interesting destination is because it is surrounded by equally marvellous attractions. In addition to the agricultural basket that it is, the rice terrace is also a cultural melting pot of sorts. The location of Petali Temple close to Jatiluwih means that visitors awed by the rice terraces can sample the cultural heritage of the locals at the temple.

The distance from Denpasar City to Jatiluwih Rice Terrace is around 50kms. This attraction is easily accessible by road. There are two ways to get to the rice terraces. The eastern route takes visitors through a quaint village known as Pacung, while the western route passes through Watukaru Temple.

You can get here by taking a taxi or you can organise a private driver for the day. You can get to the rice terraces and back with a private driver for anywhere between 70,000 to 120,000 Rp for a return trip. To book a driver for the full day, it will cost anywhere between 500,000 – 700,000 Rp.
