Bali is just one of Indonesia’s more than 13,000 islands but is certainly the most famous. Bali is located in the south of Indonesia, between Lombok to the east and Java to the west.

Bali’s weather is hot every day, with rainy periods during the monsoon months. You will only need shorts and t-shirts in Bali, unless you are climbing a mountain at sunrise which will require something a little warmer. Wet weather lasts from October all through to March. During these months, it is not uncommon to experience high humidity, torrential rains, often in short bursts and regular storms. For this reason, many travellers opt not to travel during the wet months as it can become very uncomfortable. Dry weather commences in April and lasts through to September. During these months, humidity is at bearable levels. Rains are irregular, and even when it does rain, it does not come in torrents, but rather short bursts.

Closely tied to Balinese culture is their religion. Bali has a population of approximately 4.2 million people with the main religion being Balinese Hinduism with the remainder following Islam.

The local language is Balinese and Indonesian, with English spoken across major tourist attractions. Indonesian currency is referred to as the Indonesian Rupiah, and is denoted by the currency code IDR. The symbol of this currency is indicated as Rp. The rupiah consists of banknotes of 1000 rupiah up to 100,000 rupiah and coins in denominations of 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000 rupiah. One Australian dollar gets you around 10,000 IDR, one US dollar gets you around 12,000 IDR, and one Euro gets you around 14,000 IDR.

Kuta is the most popular place to visit in Bali. Known for its vibrant nightlife, Kuta is perfect for the fun-loving adventure-seeking traveller. Ubud is another town in Bali that is arguably Bali’s cultural melting pot. With several natural attractions and the characteristic rolling rice paddies, this location is one that every traveller must experience.
