Temple of the Meeting of the Three, known to the locals as Pura Samuan Tiga, is popular with local and foreign tourists, thanks to its majestic appearance.

The name of the temple is thought to make reference to the trinity in Hinduism. Others think that the temple earned its name from a number of meetings which were held on location back in the 11th century.

Originally built in the 11th century, the temple has had to withstand a number of natural disasters in the area. In particular, many parts of the temple were destroyed in a 1917 earthquake. This led to the reconstruction of the temple soon after.

Located on the way to Ubud and quite close to Goa Gajah, the majestic temple is a major stopover for those touring Bali. An interesting face about this temple ias that it was designed by one of Bali’s most talented artists and painters, the famous I Gusti Nyoman Lempad.

On arrival, visitors are ushered to the main gate and into the inner courtyard that is dotted with numerous thrones and shrines built to honour the gods. The intricate design of the shrines, complete with finishing touches of gold, creates an opulent aura. This is completed by various large paintings that depict various parts of the epic Ramayana.

Past the courtyard, you will come across an interesting collection of elements drawn from the Temple of the Meeting of the Three before it was levelled by the earthquake. The tiny pond has a shrine where you can pay your respects and enjoy a moment of solitude.

The entrance fee is around 10,000 IDR and visitors must ensure that they wear a sarong to cover knees and ankles. Also make sure that shoulders and midriffs are covered.
